Developed by CETT (Compagnie Européenne de Télétransmission), CETT 20 (also known as ETC-20) enables communication between control stations and CETT-20 substations.

Its physical layer operates in standard mode with start bit, data bits, parity and stop bit. Its link layer is almost identical to the HDLC protocol in normal response mode.
