ipConvPS Use Cases

Coupling of a SCADA system over IEC 870-5-104 to a PLC device
  • This diagram shows a solution where one PLC is coupled to two redundant control stations via the IEC 60870-5-104 protocol.

At the Profibus, ipConvPS functions as a slave and the PLC as a master, the DPV0 Profibus version is used.

In control direction, IEC 60870-5-104 switching commands or set points are mapped to the Profibus DPV0 input section.

In monitoring direction, digital and analog outputs are mapped to IEC 60870-5-104 information objects.

How data is allocated is freely configurable. Time stamps can be added in ipConvPS.

Coupling of a PLC device as master to RTUs over IEC 870-5-101 and DNP 3.0
  • This diagram shows a solution where an PLC, which assumes the role of a control station, is connected to one or several substations. Two different serial protocols IEC 60870-5-101 and DNP 3.0 are used.

The digital and analog PLC outputs are mapped to commands in the RTU direction.

In the monitoring direction, the information objects from IEC 60870-5-101 and/or DNP 3.0 are mapped to digital and/or analog inputs.

A similar topography was used for the IBIRITE project.
