The ipConv gateway acts as RCI (Remote Control Interface) and connects the Simatic TDC control system via
the protocol IEC 60870-5-104 to the Siemens PowerCC control station.
Thereby the gateway behaves as "slave".
The communication between gateway and the TDC control system runs over Ethernet by means of Simatic TDC protocol.
Thereby the gateway behaves as "master".
Data transmission between PowerCC and gateway is via two separate LANs.
The lines can be operated in parallel or in "hot-standby" mode (one line active, the other passive).
The messages are sent either through both channels or only via the active channel to the control station (configurable).
Our industrial PC IPC191V2 19" 1U is installed as hardware platform. A CompactFlash (without rotating parts) with an MTBF ≥ 4.000.000 h is taken as mass storage.

300 MW Offshore Windpark Thanet, UK
The Thanet offshore wind farm, consisting of 100 wind turbines, each 3 MW from Vestas (Denmark), is located in the North Sea.
It's roughly 11 km away from the coast line of Kent, Foreness Point. The owner is Thanet Offshore Wind Ltd., U.K.
The 33/132 kV transformer station with its two 180 MVA transformers will be mounted on an offshore platform to be located at the wind farm area.
The power transmission will be realized via two three-phase 132 kV XLPE submarine cables. The point of coupling to the grid will be at a switch gear in Richborough, Kent.
The grid connection was energized in the autumn 2009 - with all 100 wind turbines running by autumn 2010.
When the entire offshore wind farm is completed, it will provide enough energy for approximately 215,000 homes and reduce the CO2 emissions by 830,000 tons in a year.
