OPC UA

OPC UA (Unified Architecture) was specified by the OPC Foundation and combines the previous technologies OPC DA, AE and HD. It paves the way for industry 4.0 and Internet of Things (IoT). The use of Microsoft DCOM is dispensed with. Instead, a service-oriented protocol based on TCP/IP is used for secure communication, e.g. on the internet, thanks to encryption and user authentication, also across firewalls. For the first time, numerous Linux implementations and on-chip solutions are available in addition to implementations for Microsoft Windows®. That is why OPC UA is applicable from sensor to cloud.
